When approaching your boss for negotiation, approach him/her with a charming smile. This will get your boss at ease and can easily meet your demands. The second tip is the maintenance of eye contact. Failure to maintain an eye contact with your boss during negotiation will always shows some signs of disloyalty. When you boss asks you questions, think hard before responding to them, jumping into answers before thorough thoughts might lead to the answering of not asked questions hence you demands might not be met.
Dirk Kettwell also wants you to consider your attitude during negotiation. Never have a confrontational attitude towards your boss. Consider your negotiation as a formal discussion and you shall have your way. According to Dirk Kettwell, your discussion with your boss must be lively. Try to keep it lively. It helps bit by bit to yield a positive result. You are also to consider the amount of questions you ask your boss. Do not ask too many questions without even thinking the future of your company. Your boss might see you as a person of no vision; hence consider you unsuitable for bigger post. Finally, consider the tone you are using during negotiation. Use a soft and friendly tone.
